“What about Somali or Hispanic students, who might not eat sandwiches?” says [Verenice] Gutierrez, principal at Harvey Scott K-8 School, a diverse school of 500 students in Northeast Portland’s Cully neighborhood.
“Another way would be to say: ‘Americans eat peanut butter and jelly, do you have anything like that?’ Let them tell you. Maybe they eat torta. Or pita.”
Gutierrez has been participating in a “district-wide equity training” brainwashing initiative called “Courageous Conversations.”
Through intensive staff trainings, frequent staff meetings, classroom observations and other initiatives, the premise is that if educators can understand their own “white privilege,” then they can change their teaching practices to boost minority students’ performance.
Kids graduate from high school not even knowing how to read. But at least they are experts on white privilege and the racism inherent in a PBJ.
Among Gutierrez’s projects: a lunchtime drum class for black and Hispanic boys. In response to parents who objected that maybe Caucasian kids would like to play drums too:
“When white people do it, it is not a problem, but if it’s for kids of color, then it’s a problem?” says Gutierrez, 40, an El Paso, Texas, native whose parents were Mexican immigrants. “Break it down for me. That’s your white privilege, and your whiteness.”
That is, the white boys are to cower in shame for being privileged while the kids who actually are privileged under our regime of demented political correctness have fun with the drums.
If socialism in education is unavoidable at this point, then fine: issue vouchers. But no child deserves to be subjected to the corrosive militant idiocy of government schools.

That’s because her dad, David, says the Prague (Okla.) High School grad — who was also the school’s valedictorian and a 4.0 student — is being denied her diploma because her graduation speech this spring included the word “hell” instead of “heck.”
“We went to the office and asked for the diploma and the principal said ‘Your diploma is right here but you’re not getting it. Close the door we have a problem,” David told KFOR-TV.
So what exactly happened a few months ago that has the school so upset? According to David, Kaitlin decided to channel a quote from the popular “Twilight” series:
When tasked with writing the graduation speech, her dad says she got her inspiration from the movie “Eclipse: The Twilight Saga.”
Nootbaar says, “Her quote was, when she first started school she wanted to be a nurse, then a veterinarian and now that she was getting closer to graduation people would ask her what do you want to do and she said ‘How the h*** do I know? I’ve changed my mind so many times.”
He says in the written script she gave to the school she said “heck,” but in the moment she said h*** instead.
Nootbaar says the audience laughed, she finished her speech to warm applause and didn’t know there was a problem.
David says the school is demanding Kaitlin write an apology letter. She’s refusing, saying she did nothing wrong.
Kaitlin is set to start college this fall on a full-ride scholarship — which her dad says makes the high school’s move all the more perplexing.
As for the school, it’s not talking to the press to explain its side of the story. “This matter is confidential and we can not publicly say anything about it,” Superintendent Dr. Rick Martin told KFOR.

Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino is saying no thanks to a southern fast food empire.
The mayor is vowing to block Chick-fil-A from bringing new stores to Boston.
The decision comes following the chain president's views against gay marriage. Dan Cathy said the company was "guilty as charged" when it came to supporting the biblical definition of marriage as between a man and a woman.
The mayor said he doesn't want a company that discriminates against gay and lesbians setting up shop in Boston, especially on the Freedom Trail.
Menino added that he will not allow Chick-fil-A into Boston unless they change their policy.
