NYPD Hate Crime Division Called After Bacon Found on Ramadan Field
The NYPD Hate Crimes Division is investigating an incident at the New Dorp Beach field after bacon was found on the ground before a Ramadan service.

It’s being investigated as a hate crime — someone scattered pieces of bacon over the New Dorp Beach field where the borough’s Muslim community celebrated the end of Ramadan Sunday morning.
But that act of desecration failed to ruin what organizers described as a successful celebration — about 1,500 worshipers gathered at the John D’Amato Field at New Dorp Lane and Cedar Grove Avenue, unaware of the early morning police investigation that preceded the ceremony.
“Everything went smoothly,” said Dr. Mohamed Sadeia, president of the Muslim American Society on Staten Island, which organized the gathering. “The community is really not aware of it.
Dr. Sadiea was one of a handful of organizers who noticed the uncooked bacon on a small section of the field at about 8 a.m.
He said he contacted police, but kept the incident and investigation quiet, because he didn’t want to distress the adults and children gathering for morning prayers.
“They didn’t want to ruin the happiness of one of the only two holidays of the entire year,” said Hesham El-Meligy, the founder of the Islamic Civic Association-Staten Island, who said he didn’t attend the outdoor ceremony but had heard about the incident.

Media Fail: Chevy Volt Makes NO Money, Costs Taxpayers Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars Per Car
The President is running in large part on the bailout’s $30+ billion loss, uber-failed “success.” And the Press is acting as his stenographers. An epitome of this bailout nightmare mess is the electric absurdity that is the Chevrolet Volt. The Press is at every turn covering up - rather than covering - the serial failures of President Obama’s signature vehicle.
The Press has failed to mention at least five Volt fires, myopically focusing on the one the Obama Administration hand-selected for attention. The Press has failed to mention that the Volt fire problem remains unsolved. Is it the battery? Is it the charging station? Is it the charging cable? All of the above? GM and the Administration don’t know. And the Press ain’t breaking their necks trying to find out. In more recent news, the Press has almost as one hailed the June Volt sales increase. But that feeble Volt tally has the Press all revved up. And speaking of the Volt’s ridiculous $41,000 sticker price: According to multiple GM executives there is little or no profit being made on each Volt built at a present cost of around $40,000. Furthermore, the $700 million of development that went into the car has to be recouped. Get that? GM makes “little or no profit” on the Volt. So it makes perfect sense that GM would spend millions of dollars advertising it, does it not? No ideological or campaign intent there, eh President Obama? Look, I get it, it’s fun. I just spent $1 million - of your money - advertising free air. On which my profit margin is just as good as GM’s is on the Volt. Only my ads didn’t have a song, or a dance. We just aren’t as cool as the Volt. I mean, it’s so cool - it can travel back in time to inspire the production of cars before it even existed. I mean, it’s so cool - it can travel back in time to offer the exact same technology as a car from 1991. And the exact same electric battery range as a car from 1897. We’re talking retro-grade cool. But wait - there’s so much more. (A)dd $240 million in Energy Department grants doled out to G.M. last summer, $150 million in federal money to the Volt’s Korean battery supplier, up to $1.5 billion in tax breaks for purchasers and other consumer incentives, and some significant portion of the $14 billion loan G.M. got in 2008 for “retooling” its plants, and you’ve got some idea of how much taxpayer cash is built into every Volt. Speaking of those “tax breaks for purchasers and other consumer incentives” - as of November of last year that tally all by itself was $250,000 per Volt sold. And that excruciating pain is ongoing. Barack Obama Keeps Campaign Promise – Patriot Coal Corp Files For Bankruptcy
“So if someone wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them.”

Patriot Coal Corp filed for bankruptcy on Monday, the first U.S. coal producer to seek court protection since prices began to plummet as electricity producers turned to cheaper natural gas.
The company and nearly 100 affiliates were part of the Chapter 11 filing in the U.S. bankruptcy court in Manhattan. Patriot said it had $3.57 billion of assets and $3.07 billion of debts, and has arranged for $802 million of financing to help it continue mining and shipments during the reorganization.
Coal producers’ shares have plummeted as natural gas prices tumbled to the lowest in a decade this year, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency proposed new rules that would make it nearly impossible to build coal-fired power plants.
Patriot said these factors, weaker economies worldwide and the cancellation of customer contracts led to reduced liquidity and financial flexibility.
While still the largest single fuel for electricity, coal’s share fell to 36 percent in this year’s first quarter from 45 percent a year earlier, according to the Energy Information Administration.
Obama warned us this would happen.

A St. Paul man with no driver's license was speeding when he lost control of his SUV and barreled off a city street, killing a teen as she sat in the grass waiting for a bus on the city's East Side, according to charges filed Friday.
Carlos Viveros-Colorado, 50, of St. Paul, was charged with criminal vehicular homicide in the death of Clarisse Grime, 16, who died Thursday after being struck in front of Harding High School, about 40 feet from E. 3rd Street. Grime was with her boyfriend, Eduardo Vazquez-Torres, 17, waiting in a shady area for a bus after finishing the day's summer school classes. Witnesses reported that the driver of a Ford Expedition was speeding east on 3rd Street when the driver lost control, hit a fire hydrant and then drove over a sidewalk and into the grassy area, according to a complaint filed by Ramsey County prosecutors. Viveros-Colorado has never had a Minnesota driver's license, according to Doug Neville, a spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety. Public records show that he previously was convicted of drunken driving in 2001, and in April was fined $100 after pleading guilty to driving without a license in Newport. Through an interpreter, YEP This guy can't even speak English Viveros-Colorado told police that after his legs and left arm went numb, he was trying to avoid hitting a parked car when he swerved and his truck jumped over a curb, hit a sign, went down the hill and hit two kids. "Viveros-Colorado said the boy jumped out of the way, but the girl didn't. He estimated that he was going 40 miles per hour when his foot got stuck on the accelerator," the complaint says. Other witnesses estimated his speed at 50 to 60 mph. He told police that he had begun having problems with numbness about three or four months ago, when his legs would go to sleep and feel heavy, as if they were in a cast. He said he went to the doctor about three months ago but they didn't find anything wrong with him. The complaint says he also said he knew it was dangerous for him to drive with this condition, but he was hoping to make it home from work. A pamphlet currently posted at the USDA website encourages local SNAP offices to throw parties as one way to get potentially eligible seniors to enroll in the program. “Throw a Great Party. Host social events where people mix and mingle,” the agency advises. “Make it fun by having activities, games, food, and entertainment, and provide information about SNAP. Putting SNAP information in a game format like BINGO, crossword puzzles, or even a ‘true/false’ quiz is fun and helps get your message across in a memorable way.” The agency’s most recent outreach effort targets California, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio and the New York metro area with radio ads. The ads have been running since March and are scheduled to continue through the end of June — at a cost of $2.5 million — $3 million, CNN Money reported Monday.
